Resources for working with Flex, Flash, AMFPHP, Zend and BlazeDS
Joey Lott is speaking tonight at our meeting on the topic of AIR/Flash and Flex and it should be great. We will also have members of the local
Philly PHP Meetup Group joining us. Why you ask? Well there are a lot of cool things you can do by combining Flex/Flash/PHP. Originally there was a PHP Meetup sheduled for tonight as well that Christophe Coenraets of Adobe was going to speak on the topic of Flex/PHP and the recent announcements about integration of AMFPHP with the Zend Framework and other goodies resulting from Adobe and Zend working together. However that event got cancelled when Adobe heard that Joey was going to be in town on the same night, despite us trying to make it a joint event it just didn't work out for one reason or another.
So, what I wanted to provide for those of you from the PHP Meetup group (and our regular members) who were really interested in hearing what Christophe had to say on this topic, is a series of links to some great resources on that topic. Joey may even discuss some of this in his preso tonight - but I wanted to get these up for everyones benefit.
I want to get the links up as quick as I can as I am getting ready to run out to head down to the meeting, so I'll probably update this post with more details later tonight after the meeting - but here are some raw links to a number of related resources including some great videos and tutorials from Lee Brimelow of Adobe and GotoAndLearn fame.

There is also one I'm looking for feedback on:
The <head> Conference (previously known as Singularity until recently) - Online attend from anywhere - October 24-26, 2008 -
http://www.headconference.com/
I am currently considering getting a place together for at least one of the days, where we can be a "hub" venue for folks wanting to attend the conference, but also socialize a bit.
More info about becoming a hub is here:
http://www.headconference.com/hubs/
Would anyone be interested in a one day Hub event? There is a cost associated with attending even virtually as a hub, and we might need to charge a litle above and beyond to cover the venue and refreshments - but it would allow you to at least attend in the presence of other humans. Please leave a comment or drop us a note if this sounds interesting, and based on feedback we will consider putting together a hub.

PFPAUG Flash Focused Mailing List

We recently migrated this site to a new physical server, and as of Monday the email server has also been migrated. Since this new server gives us a bit more horsepower and manageability we have put together a standard Mailman based mailing list focused on anything related to Flash. You may get info, subscribe and unsubscribe via the following page:
http://lists.pfpaug.org/mailman/listinfo/pfpaug
I did not automatically subscribe all of our existing members from our current database as I wouldn't want to handle the deluge of requests, etc. from over 500+ members, so even if you are an existing member, to participate in the mailing list you will need to sign up manually. I've added the link on to the sign up page and in the confirmation email that is sent out for new member signups. I'll eventually make it a checkbox in the new member sign up page as well, but for now its a manual process.
Feel free to sign up and begin discussing anything related to Flash, Flex, Flash Lite, Actionscript, Thermo, or anything even remotely related to Flash.

After Effects Workshop with Dan Short at Independents Hall July 30th

From our friends at:
Next Wednesday, July 30th
Dan Short will be sharing his extensive knowledge of
Adobe After Effects! This return of our workshop series from the spring is very exciting, and will be the first of lots of new events we’re getting fired up for this fall.
The event will run from 6:30-9pm at I
ndependents Hall. Please
RSVP on Upcoming so we can have a headcount!
From Dan:
This tutorial is meant to introduce users who are already familiar with Adobe applications to After Effects, although I am sure that there will be elements that would be valuable to anyone interested in the program. I will be showing how to animate a logo over a background using 3D space, cameras, keyframing, with pixel and vector graphics. I know it sounds like a mouthful, but I’ll be breaking it down and doing my best to answer any questions you might have. If it sounds over complicated, don’t panic. I am a nerd at heart, and it is in our nature to make things seem more complicated than they actually are.
This “Logo” type of demonstration is a common introduction into After Effects because it incorporates so many of the programs abilities. If this session is received well, I will build more tutorials based on the specific needs and wants of the Indy Hall community. I look forward to seeing you there.
If anyone would like to get a familiarity with the program before the tutorial, or would like to work along with me, I will be supplying my files to anyone interested. You can also download a demo version of the program from the Adobe site.
