Cool Prizes at Meeting on May 31st courtesy of Comcast Interactive Media

Quick update on our next meeting on May 31st, I just found out that we are going to have some additional extra cool prizes being awarded (in some fashion not yet determined) courtesy of Comcast Interactive Media. Can you say "Apple iPods"? There will be several iPods to be given away in addition to our regular bag of goodies. So now you should have plenty of incentive to come on out, attend the meeting, support our group and get a shot at some extra cool prizes. More information about the meeting can be found here. Hope to see everyone there!

Next Meeting Date: 05.31.07 - Arpit Mathur of Comcast Interactive Media on Flex/Flash Large Scale Applications

Our next meeting has been set for Thursday, May 31st, 2007 and promises to be a great follow-up to our last meeting. We had a great turnout at our CS3 launch meeting in March. Congratulations to Ethan Murphy, the lucky winner of a full copy of the Adobe CS3 Premium Production Suite. We gave away plenty of other goodies icluding a full copy of Flash and plenty of cool Adobe swag. At that meeting many of the attendees stayed late for a brief talk on Flex and Apollo, and even more expressed interest in hearing more about Flex/Flash AS3 and Apollo at future meetings, well you are in for a treat at our next meeting.

Arpit Mathur Lead Software Engineer of Comcast Interactive Media will be giving a presentation on "Flex/Flash Large Scale Applications". Comcast Interactive Media is kindly hosting the event at their offices in Center City - the 1500 "Clothespin" building as many refer to it, on the corner of 15th and Market - you can't get more "Center" than that unless you are in City Hall. Many of you may be familiar with Arpit's work like his Digg Visual Treemapper and FlexAmp both created with Flex, or the work he and his team at Comcasts Interactive Media push out, like "The Fan 3.0" which won a coveted "Rubber Arrow" at the FlashForward 2006 FilmFestival in Austin. You can see the new "Fan 4.0' created in Flex at the Comcast Interactive Media site, along with other great Flash/Flex based projects. If you are interested in the cutting edge of Flex/Flash for large scale, high traffic deployments, you definitely don't want to miss this meeting. Comcast is providing refreshments and I'll have some goodies to give away as always - maybe even some surprises. :) Its worth noting, that I also just realized that Gabo Mendoza is part of the Comcast Interactive Media team as their User Experience Lead. Some of you may remember Gabo from his famous "Gabocorp" site back in the day. Well he is blogging and I had no idea, but he is located in Philadelphia as well. I'm hoping Gabo will attend the meeting as part of the team. I know many of our groups members who have been using Flash for many years will be familiar with his work.

If you are interested in attending, we will be putting up an RSVP form shortly, where you can let us know your intentions. If you can't wait and want to sign up now and you are a current member, just drop me a note via my contact form. If you have never signed up as a member, simply fill out our member sign up form (no fees, anyone can sign up - its free!) and make a note in the comments that you'll be attending the meeting. We want to make sure we have enough space and refreshments for everyone who plans on coming.
